Sample Photos
Sample Photos
As of yet, there are no production D700s in the hands of normal end-users like myself. I have mine on NPS priority order; as soon as it arrives I’ll post some samples here. In the meantime, here are Nikon’s own official sample photographs. Note that these all appear to be JPEGs straight out of camera.
In case you don’t want to download the whole image, I’ve also provided some 100% crops. To see the whole image, just click on the thumbnail.

Today I received D700, SB-900 flash, MB-D10, BL-3 battery cover. D700 will be second body to my D3. I am happy Nikon has gone back to full frame more useful for the photography I do.

It is a pity that Nikon D 700 has such mediocre quality images.

Mediocre quality?
It’s simply a great camera with great images.

Fantastic camera super sharp images! Would only be mediocre if you dont know how to use it

Salman, I can only assume that you are being sarcastic when you say the D700 has “mediocre quality images”. Out of all the reviews I’ve seen on this camera, not one has given the Nikon D700 anything but the highest praise in terms of image quality, dynamic range, and especially high ISO quality. Indeed, most say the IQ is equivalent to Nikon’s flagship D3, and no one has denied its image quality!

Got D700 three weeks ago, absolutely thrilled with it. I think Nikon have done well with this new launch and it will be very interesting to see how Canon respond when they launch their competitive model. Nikon have really changed gear on their new product development and Canon look a little slow by comparison.

S. KHaliq must be a canon user….haha…don’t hate…need to appreciate

you have to understand that D700 is 99.9% D3 box. And I think it was very smart to do it just to get it market. So, even Canonites can not say nothing negative about D3 (D700) IQ.

Does anyone have sample photos working in “Dx” format??

This is one of the best cameras I ever used and what I like the most; is its capabilities in shooting in the low light conditions.
the quality of the LCD is amazing and the ability to use all the pervious Nikkor lences is a big plus as well

>>It is a pity that Nikon D 700 has such mediocre quality images
Maybe Khaliq was referring to the really poor composition of several of these photos, not the technical image quality. Who would put a lamp in the subject’s lap?

I just came back from a trip in the Sahara… most of my Canon friends (using 5D and down) had problems with the sand getting in their camera / lens and jamming things. I was very happy to burry my whole camera in the sand and pull it out, unharmed !

I am surprised at Nikon’s choice of sample images. These are complete crap. I shot better images before I even read the frikin manual.

I think the main reason these photos were used is to demonstrate the technical quality that you can get with the combination of the D700 and some of Nikon’s finest lenses. I think the photo taken with the 200mm f2 prime lens is especially revealing. Of course, the lens costs about $4700!!… and it ain’t no lightweight, tipping the scales at over six pounds! But look at the detail and the colors! I have the 24-70mm f2.8 and I’m VERY happy with it on my D700. A photograph is what you make it. A camera is nothing more than a tool, like a chisel. what you produce with the tool depends on your skill.

D 700 is a wonderful camera.i have been using it forthe last few months and am still learning. The ISO settings and the white balance is still to be mastered . Any tips?

I like shooting in ambient light (non-flash). D700 was amazing. I never use other brands like Canon etc.
I’m sure some models are good too. High ISOs and clean images, able to capture lots more pix per battery charge,
I feel the confidence when shooting, and nowadays, if I use flash, I greatly reduce the flash output, and I see all the colours faithfully produced in my images. I’m only an amateur. It is an expensive camera but if it is good, I will patiently wait for the price to drop a little bit, before buying. I have no regrets buying D700. Better buy a good model now that can serve my purposes for a very long time than keep changing models as they are introduced in the market. The video function is just a sales gimmick. How long a video can you squeeze into a CF card(s)? I am also a videographer. If you want to be a videographer, buy a real good 3CCD videocam. We are photographers, not videophotographers

Just got my D700 last night. I already hav a D300 and a D300s. I opened it up last night and was shooting in minutes (having already been familiar with the camera style.
Last night, I let my dog out at 11:45pm with only my deck lights on. Took the camera and snapped a couple of images of snow on my deck just for sh*ts and giggles and I was totally blown away that even at ISO3200 I got some highly usable, clear images of the dog and deck. Over the last five or six weeks I have shot a couple of paying gigs which were all inside. Even though my D300 did a fabulous job up to ISO 1600, I wish I would have gotten my D700 earlier. Wow.
Can’t wait to experiment further.

Hey just looking into the D700, currently have a D90 and thinking of moving up…any comments as to comparison of the tow, how is the D700 better? Thanks for your comments

Have owned my D700 for a year now and have found that it is a fine box to process what the glass delivers. It is no better than my D90 using the same lens. Depending on the shooting situation both cameras will deliver excellent images but the D700 will shoot in more diversified situations with less noise at higher ISO settings. The glass will determine the quality of the final image. If you use a 70 - 200 mm 2.8 Nikon lens you will get excellent images regardless which medium to high end DSLR camera you use. The D700 will do it faster, in more situations with less noise.

Put on your spectacles, Salman!
June 22nd, 2010 at 6:14 am
I believe Salman is referring to the composition of the photographs, not the quality of them. I’ve heard that statement on quite a few sites when responding to reviewers test photographs. The point of test pictures is to push the equipment to its edge, to try to force the flaw. Even an instant camera can produce quality results in the perfect scenario so showing gorgeous images does nothing, it’s a moot point. I don’t care about the grandeur of the test photograph as long as I can compare shadows or whatever is the focus and see the exif data associated with it.
On the other hand, maybe that’s not what he meant.

i am using a D90 and thinking to switch to d700.is the depth of field diffrent with the same lens and settings on D90 compared to D700 ?

Sounds like the 700 is great. I am starting some kind of photography school. Would somebody help me make up my mind? Should I Do online classes,or Do I need to be in a class? Any comments would be helpful for me.
